The Citizens Alliance (CA) has officially endorsed the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) ahead of the December 2026 presidential election, describing the alliance as being in the national interest.

The announcement was made on Saturday, January 10, 2026, by CA Secretary General Dr. Ismaila Ceesay during a press conference at Paradise Suites Hotel in Senegambia. Senior party executives attended the event, which aimed to update the public on internal and national developments.

Dr. Ceesay, who also serves as Minister of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services, said the decision followed internal consultations and the outcome of the party’s recent congress, which re-elected him as Secretary General for a four-year term.

“At our level as a party, we deemed it imperative to support the NPP in the 2026 presidential bid,” Dr. Ceesay told journalists. “This alliance is forged in the best interest of the country and to further empower the president’s transformative vision for The Gambia.”

He said the Citizens Alliance views the current administration as having delivered “unprecedented development” across key sectors, a factor that heavily influenced the party’s decision to maintain its alliance with the NPP.

Improvements in healthcare, infrastructure, education, and public service reforms were among the achievements highlighted by Dr. Ceesay. “These are developments even the opposition cannot deny,” he said.

Also speaking at the press conference, Pa Babu Gaye, the party’s diaspora representative and policy strategist, said the Citizens Alliance brings technical expertise and professional capacity that have contributed to strengthening state institutions under the alliance.

A seasoned information technology expert, Gaye noted that professionals associated with the party have supported reforms in key public institutions, including the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital and the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC). He added that teams linked to the party have assisted in developing database systems and analytics to improve efficiency and service delivery.

“Through this alliance, we have ensured that our knowledge and expertise are leveraged to support national development,” Gaye said, describing the interventions as part of the party’s broader commitment to advancing the government’s development agenda.
