The Brikama Magistrates’ Court on Monday remanded a man in custody following his appearance in court over a pickpocketing charge.
Alfusainey Jallow appeared before Magistrate Kanjura B. Sambou, and he was charged with a single count of stealing, contrary to Section 226 of the Criminal Offences Act, 2025.
According to the prosecution, the alleged offence occurred on 17 December 2025 at Brikama Box-Ba in the West Coast Region. The court heard that Jallow was accused of stealing cash from the pocket of Kemo Sarjo.
The charge was read out to the accused in English and interpreted into Mandinka, the language he chose to speak and understand. Jallow pleaded not guilty to the charge.
PC 9453 Y. Sonko appeared on behalf of the Inspector General of Police and applied for an adjournment to enable the prosecution to call its witnesses.
The application was granted by the court, and the matter was adjourned to 2 February 2026 for continuation of the hearing.
Magistrate Sambou ordered that the accused be remanded in custody pending the next court date.
