Footprint Afrika, a civil society organization, has outlined plans to train non-school-going community children in various skills to enhance their potential and promote child employment.

The organisation made the disclosure as part of commemoration of World Tourism Day. In a landmark event held at the Alliance Française on 27 September 2025. Everit Baniesy Bangura, CEO and founder of Footprint Afrika, emphasized that the organization’s primary focus was on child empowerment, particularly for girls.

“There is a widespread belief that women should be limited to the kitchen. At Footprint Afrika, we reject this narrative. We believe women are talented and creative when supported and empowered,” Mrs. Bangura argued.

She further highlighted that the event marked the launch of an Art Centre designed to provide non-school children with access to skill acquisition opportunities. Mrs. Bangura also announces plans to launch a film titled Only She Knows, which aims to showcase how young girls can thrive through talent and determination.

Prince Bubacarr Aminata Sankanu, President of the Film Producers Association of The Gambia, who attended the event, commended the initiative. “This is an initiative that empowers young people, and that is commendable. Culture lives through young people and passes from one generation to another. Activities nurturing the next generation are a vital way of preserving our culture,” he remarked.

Mr. Sankanu also emphasized the importance of engaging young children in filmmaking and production, noting that the sector has significant potential to create opportunities for youth.

The event concluded with a fundraiser supporting the three projects Footprint Afrika aims to launch. Attendees contributed funds, while performing artists were certified for their participation during the night’s program.
