The United Democratic Party (UDP) on Tuesday named three candidates shortlisted for its flag bearer selection process.
This followed an interview process conducted by the party’s selection committee and the list of finalists was released yesterday. The three candidates are: the party’s long-serving flag bearer, Ousainou Darboe, along with Amadou Sanneh, UDP’s treasurer and Borry Touray.
It could be recalled that eleven individuals had initially applied for the UDP flagbearer position, including the Mayor of the Kanifing Municipal Council, Talib Ahmed Bensouda. However, Bensouda later announced his withdrawal from the race and his subsequent resignation as the party’s Organizing Secretary.
The three shortlisted candidates will now participate in a consensus-building exercise to determine who will lead the party in the 2026 presidential election. If a consensus cannot be reached, the party will hold primary elections to select its flagbearer.
