As part of efforts to boost domestic tourism across The Gambia, affectionately known as the Smiling Coast of Africa, the Gambia Tourism Board (GTB) has embarked on a Familiarization Tour (FAM-Tour), visiting places like Bakadaji Hotel. The initiative brought together leading Gambian social media influencers and travel writers to explore some of the country’s best yet under-promoted tourism gems.
One of the highlights of this memorable journey was a visit to the exquisite Bakadaji Hotel for breakfast and a tour of its stunning facilities before the group headed to the hinterland.
A Four-Star Experience in the Heart of Senegambia.
Located along the busy Bertil Harding Highway in the heart of the Tourism Development Area (TDA), Bakadaji Hotel is a sophisticated four-star retreat offering comfort, culture, and eco-friendly hospitality. The hotel is named after the village of Bakadaji in the Central River Region, the hometown of its late founder.
From the moment you step through its gates, Bakadaji welcomes guests like royalty. Staff greet everyone with genuine smiles and attentive service that enhances the hotel’s reputation as one of the most guest-friendly destinations in the country.
Rooms That Redefine Relaxation
Bakadaji offers a variety of rooms to meet every traveller’s needs. These include standard single and double rooms, and superior single and double suites. Each room is tastefully designed with a blend of modern comfort and contemporary African art, offering breathtaking views and thoughtfully selected amenities.
For longer stays, the hotel features self-catering apartments. These spacious accommodations are decorated with African-inspired interiors and are fully furnished with modern conveniences, including air conditioning, TVs, fully equipped kitchens, plush bedding, and luxurious bathrooms.
Bakadaji’s restaurant, Lekukai, offers a vibrant mix of African and continental cuisine. Open from breakfast through dinner, the restaurant welcomes both in-house guests and visitors. Lekukai – meaning “Let’s Eat” in Wollof — reflects the hotel’s deep-rooted commitment to Gambian culture and hospitality.
The hotel is also an ideal venue for business and social events. Its largest space, the Ebrima Njie Conference Room, seats up to 150 guests, making it perfect for seminars, workshops, and corporate functions. Additional venues like the Fatou Mbaye and Bantaba halls cater to smaller gatherings with equal style and efficiency. Also, Bakadaji’s courtyard is available for other outside social events.
Bakadaji Hotel offers a wide range of leisure facilities, including a spa, salon, swimming pool, and gym, ensuring guests can relax or stay active during their visit.
Bakadaji Hotel is more than just a place to stay; it is an immersive experience that celebrates the beauty, culture, and hospitality of The Gambia.
