Sanna Bah of Sanyang Village appeared on Thursday, 7th August 2025, before Magistrate A. Fofana of Brikama Magistrates’ Court charged with a single count of stealing, contrary to Section 226 of the Criminal Offences Act, 2025, Laws of The Gambia.
Sergeant J. Prerra announced his representation for the Inspector General of Police, while the accused was unrepresented.
According to the particulars of the offence, on 28th July 2025, at Sanyang Village, Kombo North, West Coast Region, Sanna Bah allegedly stole a large plastic pan containing oysters locally known as seefoo valued at D3,000. The property is said to belong to one Penda Faye.
The charge sheet was read in Fula, the language the accused requested through an interpreter. After the reading of the charge, the accused confirmed that he understood the charge and pleaded not guilty.
Following the plea, Sgt. Prerra applied for an adjournment to allow the prosecution to call its witnesses. He also objected to bail, citing the accused’s involvement in another on-going matter before Magistrate I.O. Njie, in which he is jointly charged with his twin and elder brothers for a separate count of stealing.
Sgt. Prerra informed the court that in the previous case, the prosecution’s witness, Corporal 7232 E. Fofana, had testified that the accused had jumped bail. “It is true, Your Worship he [Sanna Bah] was jumping bail,” Cpl. Fofana stated.
Sgt. Prerra further argued that granting bail in the current case might result in the accused committing another offence.
The court accordingly granted the prosecution’s application, ordered that the accused be remanded in custody, and adjourned the matter to 18th August 2025 for continuation.
