Kanifing Magistrates’ Court Tuesday remanded two Senegalese nationals on charges of theft and conspiracy to commit felony.

Principal Magistrate S. Mbaye sent Sulayman Njie and Mara Jobe, to the remand wing of Mile II Central Prison pending their trial.

The two were charged on two counts; count one was conspiracy to commit a felony, contrary to Section 341 of the Criminal Offences Act 2025, while count two was stealing from a motor vehicle, contrary to Section 231(C) of the same Act.

According to court records, the incident occurred on or about 22 July 2025, at Kairaba Avenue in the Kanifing Municipality. The prosecution alleged that Sulayman conspired with Mara to steal a large sum of money from a vehicle.

The vehicle, a Hyundai Tucson with registration number KM 6694E, reportedly contained (D1,000,000) One Million Dalasis belonging to one Giovind Singh Tanwar. The accused allegedly broke into the car and took the cash.

Inspector C.B. Jallow and Corporal 5750 B. Jarra appeared as the prosecution on behalf of the Inspector General of Police.

Defence Counsel Leigh, who represented the accused persons, applied for bail, arguing that he had reliable sureties willing to stand for his clients. However, the prosecution opposed the bail application, stating that the accused may abscond from the jurisdiction and flee to Senegal if granted bail.

Magistrate Mbaye upheld the prosecution’s objection and ordered that both accused persons be remanded at Mile II. The matter was adjourned to 11 August 2025 for the commencement of trial.
