The Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Bill 2026 has received its first reading before members of the National Assembly on Thursday.
The bill was presented by the Minister of Health, Dr. Ahmadou Lamin Samateh, after the Speaker varied the order paper in accordance with Standing Order 14.3 to allow the minister to carry out the presentation.
In line with Standing Order 65, the Clerk of the National Assembly read the subtitle of the bill after the minister handed over a copy to the Clerk. The bill was then deemed to have been read for the first time.
The Speaker Informs members that the next stage of the bill will take place on Thursday, 12 March 2026, when the minister in charge is expected to move a motion for its second reading.
