Three Gambian footballers, Musa Ann and Lamin Drammeh of Samger FC, and Paul Colley of Medina United FC, have traveled to the United Kingdom to train with English Premier League club Nottingham Forest.

The trio earned the opportunity following impressive performances at trials organized by former Gambian international Cherno Samba. The trials, which attracted scouts from prominent clubs including Fulham FC and Swedish side Mjällby AIF, aim to highlight the growing pool of football talent in The Gambia.

Samba, who played a pivotal role in promoting Gambian footballers abroad, expressed optimism about the prospects of the young players. “These trials are designed to give our players exposure to top European clubs and show that Gambian talent can compete at the highest level,” he said.

Nottingham Forest’s Head of Emerging Talent, Dan Kelly, was among the scouts present at the trials. Kelly praised the quality of the players, noting that their technical skills and determination stood out during the sessions.

“This is a significant step for Gambian football,” Samba added. “Opportunities like this not only help the players develop but also put The Gambia on the map as a source of promising football talent.”

Musa Ann, Lamin Drammeh, and Paul Colley are set to undergo an intensive training programme in the UK, where they will gain experience in European football systems, improve their tactical understanding, and showcase their abilities on a bigger stage.

Football analysts say such initiatives could serve as a springboard for more Gambian players to break into European leagues, further strengthening the country’s football profile internationally.

The development underscores the importance of grassroots talent identification and international collaboration in nurturing football prospects from West Africa.
