An alleged assailant, Adama Camara, appeared before the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court yesterday, charged with assaulting a man in Fajara.

The case was presided over by Magistrate Binta Sowe. Sub-Inspector B. Fatty, representing the Inspector General of Police (IGP), told the court that the accused unlawfully assaulted Alasan Camara by slapping and kicking him on the face and body, causing actual bodily harm.

The offence, Fatty said, occurred on 1 January 2026 in the Kanifing Municipality and contravenes Section 195 of the Criminal Offences Act, 2025.

When the charges were read and explained to him in a language he understood, Camara pleaded not guilty.

Sub-Inspector Fatty requested an adjournment to secure the first prosecution witness and did not oppose bail, noting that the offence is bailable.

Magistrate Sowe granted the accused bail of D30,000 or one Gambian surety who must submit a valid national ID card or passport to the court registrar.

The matter has been adjourned to Wednesday, 21 January 2026, at 10:40 a.m., for the testimony of the first prosecution witness.
