An 18-year-old Gambian boy, Cherno Barry, has been remanded at Mile 2 Central Prison after pleading guilty to charges of housebreaking and stealing before the Brikama Magistrates’ Court.

Barry appeared before Principal Magistrate Anna O. Mendy on Monday facing two counts under the Criminal Offences Act, Laws of The Gambia.

On the first count, Barry was charged with housebreaking, contrary to Section 256(1)(a) of the Act. Prosecutors stated that on December 22, 2025, at Brikama Daru-Hairu in the West Coast Region, he unlawfully entered the residence of Abdou Karim Dibba with intent to commit felony.

The second count accused him of stealing, under Section 226 of the Criminal Offences Act. Court documents indicate that Barry allegedly stole two mobile phones from the same residence on the same date – a Tecno Spark 10 valued at D7,000 and a Samsung Galaxy A10 valued at D6,000.

The charges were read and explained in court, and the accused pleaded guilty to both counts.

Prosecuting officer PC 9453 Y. Sonko, representing the Inspector General of Police, requested an adjournment to present the brief facts of the case. The court granted the request and adjourned the matter to January 13, 2026, at 12:30 p.m., for the presentation of facts and sentencing.

Magistrate Mendy ordered that Barry remain in custody at Mile 2 Central Prison pending the next hearing.
