A man accused of assault causing bodily harm was on Tuesday granted bail by the Brikama Magistrates’ Court.
Yusupha Nyang appeared before Magistrate K.B. Sambou, charged under Section 196 of the Criminal Offences Act 2025 for allegedly assaulting Fatou Bintou Ceesay with a stick-on 21 October in Kartong, West Coast Region, causing injuries to her head and back.
Nyang, who had no legal representation, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Prosecuting officer Sgt. 4422 M.J. Sallah informed the court that the State would call witnesses and did not oppose bail. Magistrate Sambou subsequently granted bail set at D100,000 with two Gambian sureties. The sureties are required to deposit their national identity cards or passports with the court registrar.
The case was adjourned to 29 December for the prosecution’s first witness to begin testimony.
