The National Food Security, Processing and Marketing Corporation (NFSPMC), on Wednesday, invited members of the media to a one-day workshop ahead of the 2025/2026 Groundnut Trade Season.
NFSPMC is the newly-formed company involved in groundnut trade that replaced the former Gambia Groundnut Corporation (GGC).
Held at the Ocean Bay Hotel in Bakau on November 12, 2025, the workshop was organised under the theme: “The Role of Journalists in Shaping Positive Public Perceptions Towards National Food Security, Personal Protection, and the Groundnut Trade System.”
The session aimed to strengthen collaboration between the Corporation and the media while sharing key updates on the upcoming trade season.
In his remarks, NFSPMC Managing Director, Muhammed Njie, said the meeting was part of the Corporation’s ongoing commitment to build a stronger partnership with the media.
“These initiatives reflect our collective drive to reposition the National Food Security, Processing and Marketing Corporation as a transparent, innovative, and results-oriented enterprise,” Mr. Njie stated.
He underscored the vital role of the media in disseminating accurate information, clarifying public perceptions, and telling the story of transformation within the Corporation and the agricultural sector.
“We believe the media is an essential pillar in this journey, helping us share accurate information and promote awareness about our work,” he added.
Mr. Njie further noted that NFSPMC’s goal is to ensure Gambians are well-informed about the Corporation’s ongoing efforts, challenges, and continued contribution to national development.
He explained that effective communication and public awareness are central to advancing the Corporation’s mandate in ensuring food security, empowering farmers, and supporting national economic growth through sustainable agribusiness and value-chain development.
Highlighting some of the Corporation’s achievements, Mr. Njie said NFSPMC has, over the years, implemented a series of reforms to improve efficiency and modernise operations — including the digitisation of farmer payment systems, upgrading of processing facilities, and promotion of fair trade in key agricultural commodities.
“Today is an important day for us because it marks a historic step in our ongoing transformation,” he remarked.
Mr. Njie concluded by calling on the media to continue its collaboration with the Corporation, stressing that its support is crucial in achieving shared national objectives.
“We count on your continued support and guidance. The media is critical to our success, and we cannot achieve our desired goals without your collaboration,” Njie emphasized.
