The West Coast Regional Sports Committee (WCRSC) has officially suspended the entire Brufut Youth and Sports Development Committee (BYSDC), effective 17th September 2025, citing the need to resolve an ongoing impasse within the community.

In a letter signed by Bakary Sussoh, Secretary General of the WCRSC, and addressed to the BYSDC, the regional body stated that all sporting and sport-related activities in Brufut are to be suspended with immediate effect. This includes the immediate halt of the ongoing Nawettan season.

“These actions are being taken in the interest of maintaining peace and fostering a resolution to the current impasse within Brufut,” the letter stated.

The WCRSC further expressed confidence that the BYSDC would understand and respect the decision, viewing it as a necessary step towards restoring unity and stability in the town’s sporting activities.

The suspension follows a controversial decision by the BYSDC earlier this year to ban Mba Jarra FC from participating in the Nawettan competition, following an incident of indiscipline by some of its players toward match officials during last season’s campaign.

Although the BYSDC was advised to impose a fine on the team and suspend four individual players involved, the number of players did not meet the threshold required to justify banning the entire team under the existing regulations. Nevertheless, the BYSDC maintained its decision to suspend the club — a move that reportedly triggered unrest within the local football scene.

The WCRSC’s intervention aims to de-escalate tensions and allow space for mediation and resolution.
