Come Prepared or Face Consequences, Committee Tells Registrar

The National Assembly’s Special Select Committee on Tuesday adjourned its hearing with Mrs. Marie Therese Gomez, Registrar of Companies, after she struggled to respond to questions, prompting a stern warning from committee members.

Lead counsel said the session was going in circles, wasting the committee’s time, and requested that the hearing be postponed until the witness could return better prepared. Hon. Madi, vice chair of the committee, echoed the concern, advising Mrs. Gomez to review all submitted documents thoroughly.

“Apparently, it looks like you have not gone through the documents properly, and as a result, you are ill-prepared for this session,” Hon. Madi told the Registrar. He emphasized that witnesses must come prepared to avoid obstructing the committee’s work, which operates under strict time limits.

The session was adjourned, with the next hearing scheduled for Thursday at 11:00 a.m. Committee members also noted that next week’s proceedings will shift away from the public hearing format as planned activities take place outside the conference hall.
