The Kanifing Magistrates’ Court yesterday convicted and sentenced Ebrima Bah of Kanifing over common assault case.

The presiding magistrate Binta M. Sowe, having found him guilty of common assault, ordered Bah to pay D5,000 in compensation to the victim and an additional D2,000 to the state. The magistrate says if the convict defaults in payment, he is to serve two months at Mile II State Central Prison in Banjul.

Bah was charged with common assault under Section 227 of the Criminal Code, Cap 10:01, Volume 3, Revised Laws of The Gambia 2009.

According to court records, the incident occurred on or about 14th October 2024, in the Kanifing Municipality. Bah assaulted Kalilu Conteh, a staff member of the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC), by holding him by the neck and slice his finger with a knife.

The court heard that Kalilu Conteh, along with two colleagues, had visited Bah’s residence to carry out a disconnection exercise as part of their official duties. During the operation, they faced resistance from Bah, who assaulted one of the officers with a knife.
