Man Stands Charged with Prohibition of Domestic Violence

Kemo Ceesay on Monday 11th, August appeared before Brikama Magistrates’ Court charged with an offence of “prohibition of domestic violence,” contrary to Section 17(2) of the Domestic Violence Offences Act 2013.

Appearing before Magistrate A. Fofana, Ceesay allegedly assaulted Sona Fatty on 22nd July 2025 at Farato Village in the West Coast Region. He was said to have hit her on the head and body with a bicycle locker, causing injury.

The charge sheet was read to the accused in Mandinka until he understood, after which he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecuting officer who stood for the IGP, applied for an adjournment to prepare for trial, following the accused’s plea, and did not object to bail.

The court granted the application, adjourning the case to 21st August 2025 at 11 a.m. for hearing. Bail was set at D60,000 with three Gambian sureties, each depositing D20,000, along with their ID cards or passports to the court registrar, who will also require affidavits of means.
