Gambia Shines at African School Games

Gambian athletes are making an impressive mark at the ongoing African School Games in Annaba, Algeria, with a string of medal-winning performances.

Sprinter Buba Bayo clinched gold in the 100m, while compatriot Amadou Sabally secured bronze in the same event. In the girls’ long jump, Sirreh Sanneh earned silver, adding to the country’s growing medal tally.

The medal-winning athletes are set to return to the track on Sunday evening, with Bayo and Sabally competing in the boys’ 200m. Sanneh and 100m finalist Aminata Beyai are also scheduled to feature in the girls’ 200m event.

Meanwhile, in beach volleyball, The Gambia reached the finals of the inaugural ANOCA African School Games. Led by coach Amadou Jarju, the Gambian boys’ team put up a spirited fight but narrowly lost 2-1 to host nation Algeria in Skikda on Saturday.

As the competition continues, Team Gambia remains in strong contention across several events, showcasing the country’s rising talent on the continental school sports stage.
