Two Men Remanded Over Alleged Indecent Practice

By Isatou Sarr

Two men were on Tuesday remanded by Magistrate I. Jallow of the Brusubi Magistrates’ Court on a charge of “indecent practice between males,” contrary to Section 147(1) of the Criminal Code, Cap 10:01 Volume 3, Laws of The Gambia 2009.

The accused, Muhammed Krubally and Muhammed Jawo, both appeared unrepresented in court. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) O. Bobb appeared for the Inspector General of Police.

According to the particulars of offence, the accused persons were allegedly found engaging in indecent conduct on or about 18 May 2025 at Old Yundum in the West Coast Region. The charge alleges that the two engaged in acts described by the prosecution as grossly indecent.

Both accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to them.

In her submission to the court, ASP Bobb objected to bail, arguing that the nature of the offence is of growing concern in society.

She told the court that releasing the accused could pose a risk, as there is a likelihood of repetition.

“The offence is rampant nowadays. If the accused persons are granted bail, the society may be at risk, and others may fall victim to such acts,” she said.

Magistrate Jallow upheld the prosecution’s objection and ordered that the two accused persons be remanded in custody pending trial.

The matter was adjourned to Thursday, 31 July 2025, for continuation.
