Muhammed Suwareh has been sentenced to a mandatory one-year jail term after being convicted on two criminal charges of felony and stealing. The verdict was delivered on Wednesday the 30th July 2025 by the Principal Magistrate I.S Mbaye.
Suwareh was arraigned by Sub Inspector D. Jammeh on two counts, these count one charged him with breaking into a building and committing felony contrary to Section 258 (a) of the Criminal Offense Act 2025, while count two accused him of stealing contrary to Section 226 of the Criminal Code
The Prosecution in presenting the fact told her Lordship that “Muhammed Suwareh on or about the 20th day of July 2025, at Serrekunda Bartez, at the Kanifing Municipality, willingly and unlawfully broke the shop of one Dauda Adewusi, and stole the following items; cash amounting to D25,230.00, one mobile phone marked iPhone 12 Pro valued at a price of D30,000.00, one Samsung smart phone valued at D13,000.00 and a polymer sheet valued at D25,000.00, all stolen items amounting to a total sum of ninety three thousand two hundred and thirty Dalasis (D93,230.00), being the properties of the said Dauda Adewusi Oslo.” The accused pleaded guilty to both counts read to him.
The IGP, was represented by Inspector D. Jammeh, in his application he cited Section 218 (1) (b) of the Criminal Procedure Act 2025, that stroked out the fourth accusation of the count two, the stolen items are valued at D68,230.00.
The court having found him guilty on both counts imposed a mandatory one-year jail term with hard labour at the Mile 2 Central prison and asked the accused to pay a compensation sum of D68,230.00.
