GAF Relegates to Second Division

The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) FC has officially been relegated to the second division next season following a playoff defeat to RS Tallinding on Tuesday by 2-0.

The game was played at the Live Your Dream Football Field in Basori. RS Tallinding finished the second division season in 5th place, earning them a playoff qualification spot for the first division. GAF FC ended the season third from the bottom in the Division One standings, forcing a playoff against Division Two teams.

In the other playoff fixture at Kabakel, third-place finishers Samger FC beat fourth-place finishers Colley Stars FC 1-0. Colley Stars FC, a team owned by Gambia national team captain Omar Colley, had their dreams dashed following a competitive end-of-season fight for a playoff spot.

The win rejuvenated Samger’s hope of returning to the country’s top-flight football. They were relegated to the second division last season after a disappointing campaign.

RS Tallinding and Samger will now play in the final, where the winner will join Gambia Ports Authority and Medina United, who have both secured promotion to the first division after finishing 1st and 2nd respectively.
