Hon. Dr. Habibatou Drammeh, Minister of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE), has visited the victim of the recent car drift accident at Ndemban Clinic, urging parents, school authorities, and the community to remain vigilant and work together to protect children from such dangers.

The accident, which took place last week, involved a Grade 6 pupil from Abuko Upper Basic School and left him with serious injuries that required surgery.

In her remarks after visiting the victim Abdourahman Bah, the Minister described the accident as deeply tragic and unacceptable. “It’s a very sad moment for all of us. I have come here and seen the child and the parents. To be honest, it’s one of the saddest days for the sector. I wish we were able to stop it, but things happen,” she remarked.

Dr. Drammeh stressed that alongside ongoing police investigations, the Ministry will take necessary measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. “This is unacceptable. We all saw in the video filmed by the students themselves that they were playing with the cars until they got involved in this very serious accident that has affected Abdourahman’s life. What Abdourahman can become, no one knows. We just pray for his complete recovery and ask God to grant patience to the family during this time,” she said.

She further urged parents to play a more active role in guiding their children’s behaviour. “We ask parents to help the sector not just in the upbringing of children, but by trying to know what our kids are doing and not encouraging them to get into this kind of attitude. I’m sure these boys who were driving also have fathers and mothers,” she noted.

Meanwhile, she pointed out that the damaged section of the school fence, which may have allowed students to slip out unnoticed, is something they will look into and fix. “I was also told that whenever the fence is repaired, children from the community break it again because they want to have access to the school,” she added.

She called on the community to cooperate with school management to ensure student safety, especially within school premises. “We will continue to pray for Abdourahman and support the family so he can recover fully and return to his studies,” the Minister said.
