Brentford to Compete with West Ham for Gambian Striker

Brentford have held talks to sign Gambian wonderkid Adama Bojang but could face stiff competition from West Ham for the highly-rated forward.

The exciting 21-year-old caught the attention of Manchester United, Manchester City, and Chelsea in 2023 before sealing a move to French side Stade Reims.

He spent last season on loan in Switzerland with Grasshopper Club Zurich, where he scored six goals and provided two assists across 27 appearances.

Bojang netted a hat-trick against FC Luzern in April and scored twice against INEOS-owned FC Lausanne-Sport in February.

In Gambia, Bojang is known as the “next Emmanuel Adebayor” thanks to his lanky frame, technical ability, and blistering pace.

Regarded as one of the most promising African talents of his generation, Bojang was previously courted by RB Leipzig, Eintracht Frankfurt, and Hoffenheim before heading to France two years ago.

Meanwhile, Sunday will witness the most intriguing title race in the history of the Gambian Women’s First Division League, with only two points separating the top three teams heading into the final round of matches.

Leaders Berewuleng, on 43 points, are just one point ahead of second-placed TMT, with defending champions Red Scorpions a further point behind on 41. The tight three-horse race has made this season the most competitive in recent women’s football history in the country.

The GFF Media will provide real-time updates as the race goes down to the wire at two separate venues. It will be first against second as Bere take on TMT in Brikama, with both sides knowing that victory will hand them the title. However, in the event of a draw in Brikama, Red Scorpions can defend their crown with victory against fourth-placed Police FC in Yundum, thanks to their superior goal difference.

TMT, however, will have to do what no team has managed so far this season beat Bere after 17 matches. Bere have won 13 and drawn four. TMT have suffered just one defeat all season, which came against tomorrow’s opponent in Kabakel, losing 1-0.

In other matches, already relegated Jeshwang United will face relegation-threatened Future Bi at the Serekunda East Mini Stadium. Future Bi must beat Jeshwang and hope Yakarr FC lose to Koita in Basori to have any hope of survival. Yakarr need only a point to stay up.

Finally, Brikama United will square off with Immigration FC in the final match of the season on Monday in Kabakel.
