Fortune FC secured a vital three points after edging past Hawks FC in a tightly contested encounter at the Brikama Boxba Mini Stadium on Friday.
Historically, clashes between these two sides have been closely fought, with each of their previous five meetings decided by a one-goal margin. Fortune FC had the upper hand in the last three, winning all by a single goal.
The Week 27 fixture of the Gambia Football Federation (GFF) First Division once again showcased the technical abilities of both teams. However, clear chances were limited in the opening half, which ended goalless.
Substitute Bernard Sylva proved decisive, scoring in the 89th minute with a well-taken close-range effort. His late strike sealed another narrow win for the Petroleum Boys and marked their fourth consecutive victory over the Kabakel outfit.
The win lifts Fortune FC to second place on the league table, now five points behind leaders and defending champions Real de Banjul.
Hawks FC, meanwhile, drop to seventh in the standings.
