UDP Reaffirms Respect for Mama Kandeh, Highlights Historic Ties Between Leaders

The United Democratic Party (UDP) has reaffirmed its respect for Honorable Mama Kandeh, leader of the Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC), underscoring the longstanding relationship between their party leader, Lawyer Ousainou Darboe, and Mama Kandeh.

In a statement released, the UDP distanced itself from recent inflammatory remarks circulating on social media targeting Mama Kandeh, making it clear that such statements do not reflect the party’s views or values.

The UDP emphasized the personal and political respect shared between the two leaders, rooted not only in their roles as prominent political figures but also in historic family ties. “Our party leader, Lawyer Ousainou Darboe, has consistently held Hon. Mama Kandeh in high regard, reflecting the mutual respect that must be preserved by all who speak for or support the UDP,” the statement said.

The party further called for a politics marked by maturity and decency, rejecting divisive rhetoric and tribal provocations that threaten national unity. It warned against hate speech and personal attacks that undermine the social fabric of the country.

Highlighting the importance of unity, the UDP urged all citizens, especially its supporters, to remain vigilant against narratives that sow discord and to embrace respect despite political differences.
