DLEAG Hauls in 72 Bundles of Cannabis, Arrests 26

The Drug Law Enforcement Agency of The Gambia (DLEAG) has arrested 26 individuals with 72 bundles of suspected cannabis sativa and varying types of prohibited and controlled drugs in a series of coordinated operations across the country.

Under the leadership of the Director of Operations, DLEAG intensified its operational regime targeting drug abuse. The arrested suspects, all male, comprise 23 Gambians and three Senegalese nationals.

According to DLEAG, 17 of the accused were arrested within the West Coast Region, seven in Kanifing Municipality, and two in the North Bank Region.

In the West Coast Region, Abdoulie Bojang, 45, a Senegalese, was apprehended on 30 May at Bwiam with 72 bundles of suspected cannabis sativa hidden in three bags on a black motorcycle. Cherno Touray, 34, from Brikama, was caught on 29 May with one block and quantities of cannabis resin in a Ford vehicle.

Other arrests in the region included Bubacarr Samateh, 23, with two bundles of cannabis; Sanna Jallow, 25, with two bundles; Alieu Sanyang, 48, with one bundle; and Ousman Mendy, 54, with 25 bundles and 55 parcels. Additional suspects included Lamin Sarjo, 46, with cocaine, and Dembo Jammeh, 22, with 32 wraps of cannabis.

In Kanifing Municipality, Basiru Kujabi, 23, was arrested with one bundle and three parcels of cannabis, while Edward Gomez, 23, from Manjai Kunda, had 48 wraps of suspected kush. Other suspects, including Muhammed Njie, Sainey Dibbasey, and Achen Mendy, were arrested with varying quantities of kush and cannabis resin.

In the North Bank Region, Shering Manneh, 30, was arrested at Kerewan with 70 wraps of cannabis. Ebrima Dampha, 35, was apprehended at No-Kunda village with two bundles, five parcels, and 36 wraps.  All suspects will remain in custody while investigations continue.

DLEAG reaffirmed its commitment to combatting drug abuse and trafficking, urging the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in the fight against illicit drugs.
