Hajie Suwaneh, the Youth President of opposition United Democratic Party, has questioned President Adama Barrow’s source of funding to build political bureaus across the country.
This, he says, is the question Gambians should be asking.
In an interview with The Voice Newspaper, Suwaneh says President Barrow is building bureaus all over the country while the citizens are facing hardships, questioning the rationale behind such initiatives.
For him, the country has serious issues to talk about, stating that corruption is swallowing the country, but people are being distracted by petty talks.
“Today, our question should be: where did the NPP get funds to build these bureaus across the country?” he said. Adding: “We know they will not disclose it.”
According to Mr. Suwaneh corruption is NPP’s agenda, emphasizing that it can retard the development of a country.
He states that the youth of the country are sacrificing their lives in the Mediterranean Sea due to lack of opportunities in the country, hence heading for Europe.
“Europe offers more economic prospects, higher education opportunities and greater job prospects, making it an attractive destination for our desperate youth,” he said. “What Europe and developed countries are doing for their people is not building political bureaus but investing in productive sectors to stabilize their economies and address high cost of living and reduce unemployment,” he added.
He lamented that Gambians were facing significant economic challenges, including high unemployment rates, limited access to quality education, healthcare, and high cost of living. In the face of all these, he continues, the NPP led government is busy spending billions in building political bureaus without considering the plight of the people. He urged Gambians to vote NPP out of office for the broader interest of the country.
