The Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) has launched a strategic push to modernize its operations through staff training aimed at enhancing risk management processes.
During the opening of a two-day training workshop for staff, the Commissioner General Mr. Yankuba Darboe underscored the critical role that risk management plays in ensuring the GRA’s success in collecting revenue and maintaining public trust.
“This training is a crucial investment in our ability to anticipate challenges, address threats, and seize opportunities,” he told participants. “By equipping our staff with the tools to identify and manage risks effectively, we are reinforcing the foundation of our revenue collection efforts.”
The workshop, organized by the Department of Enterprise Risk Management, Reforms, Modernization, and IT, brought together more than thirty staff members. It aims to build staff capacity in identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks within the authority’s operations.
Speaking on behalf of the department, Musa Saidykhan emphasized the importance of risk management in today’s dynamic operational environment. “Risk management is not just a theoretical exercise; it is a practical necessity that allows us to safeguard revenue, enhance service delivery, and sustain public trust,” he said.
The Commissioner General also acknowledged the consistent performance of GRA staff in meeting revenue targets, attributing these successes to ongoing investments in staff training and development. He stressed that capacity building will continue to be a cornerstone of GRA’s modernization agenda.
“Wherever there are opportunities to learn and innovate, GRA will support its staff,” he said. “This commitment ensures that we remain proactive, forward-thinking, and resilient.”
He further assured staff that management doors remain open to support their educational and professional development, especially in pursuing higher education at tertiary institutions.
The training sessions are designed to empower staff to detect risks early, assess their impact, and implement appropriate controls. According to the organizers, this initiative reflects GRA’s commitment to building a strong risk management culture that is essential to fulfilling its mandate of mobilizing resources for national development.
The program is part of a wider strategy to modernize the authority’s operations and ensure it remains an effective, trustworthy revenue collector.
