One Amie Njie Tuesday appeared before Magistrate Mben Faal of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court on charges of stealing jewelry valued at two million dalasis.
Prosecutor Inspector Cherno B. Jallow, appearing on behalf of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), charged the accused with stealing, contrary to section 252 of the Criminal Code Cap 10.01, Volume 3, Revised Laws of The Gambia, 2009.
According to the prosecutor, the particulars of the offence allege that on or about 21st day of May 2025, at Fajara in the Kanifing Municipality, the accused stole the following items: three complete gold sets, one ruby ring, one gold bangle, one gold necklace, and two additional bangles with one ring, all valued at D2 million, all property belonging to one Abdou Karim Senghor.
The accused, Amie Njie, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against her.
Prosecutor Jallow requested an adjournment to enable him secure his witnesses. He did not object to bail for the accused, noting, however, that the value of the stolen items is a significant amount of money.
In his ruling, Magistrate Thomas Touray granted bail in the sum of D2 million, with five Gambian sureties. Each surety is required to deposit a valid national identity card and swear an affidavit of means. The accused was also ordered to deposit her travel documents with the court registrar.
The matter was adjourned to 10 June 2025 for continuation at around 1 p.m.
