The Amir of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at, Baba F. Trawally, has called on Muslims to reflect deeply on the significance of Eid Festival while preaching the need for the faithfuls to demonstrate gratitude and acts of kindness.

He made the call as Gambians prepare to mark Eidul Adha prayer on the coming Friday, a day that coincides with the holy day of Jumu’ah.

In a message to the nation, Amir Trawally reminds the faithful that Eidul Adha is not just about the ritual slaughter of animals or wearing new clothes, but about obedience, submission to Allah’s will, and sharing blessings with the less fortunate. He highlighted the example of Prophet Ibrahim, his son Ismail, and wife Hajra whose trust and obedience to Allah continue to inspire generations.

Quoting verse 38 of Surah al-Hajj of the Holy Quran, Amir Trawally emphasized that “their flesh reaches not Allah, nor does their blood, but it is your righteousness that reaches Him,” underlining that the spirit of sacrifice lies in humility and gratitude rather than mere rituals.

He urged Muslims to prioritize good deeds throughout the year, such as offering daily prayers, fasting, studying the Holy Quran in any language they understand, and caring for the needy. “We should not remember the poor and the weak only during Eid or special occasions, but throughout the year,” he said.

Amir Trawally also expressed concern for people around the world facing war, displacement, and persecution, calling on Gambians to pray for them. “They are our brothers and sisters,” he reminded.

Before concluding his message, he thanked Allah for the peace and harmony that prevails in The Gambia, encouraging all citizens to continue living in unity and tolerance. He extended Eid Mubarak greetings from Hazrat Khalifatul Masih V, Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the Spiritual and Supreme Head of the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at.

“May Allah accept our sacrifices and continue to bless our beloved Gambia,” Amir Trawally concluded.
