New Athlete Commission elected

 

The Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) hosted the elections of the Athlete Commission on Saturday at the Olympic House in Bakau to elect a new athlete commission.

Delegates drawn from National Associations elected 5 athletes from the 9 contestants with a four-year mandate to represent the voice of athletes within the Olympic Movement in The Gambia and to advocate for their interests, both in their sporting pursuits and broader personal and professional development.

The newly elected athlete commission members included Ms. Yassin Jaal, Mboob – Basketball – 19 votes, Mr. Bakary Jarjue – Wrestling – 25 votes (after the second round), Mr. Yankuba Jahateh – Triathlon -22 votes, Mr Adama Jammeh – Athletics – 16 votes, and Mr. Sainey Jawo – Volleyball – 26 votes.

The president of the GNOC will nominate two more athletes to complete the seven-man commission. The commission will now sit and elect their chair, 1st and 2nd vice presidents, SG, and Treasurer.
