The Kanifing Magistrates’ Court Thursday remanded one Baye Colley at Mile ll Central Prison pending the determination of his bail condition by the next adjourned date of his case.
Magistrate Thomas Touray, presiding over the case ordered for the accused to be remanded till next sitting on Tuesday June 10th, 2025.
Prosecution Officer Sergeant 3217 E. Camara charged the accused with assault causing actual bodily harm, contrary to Section 228 of the Criminal Code, Cap 10:01 Volume III, Revised Laws of The Gambia 2009.
The prosecution alleged that on 12th May 2025, at the Bakoteh Football Field, the accused assaulted one Omar Swaneh by hitting him with an iron object on the face, thereby causing actual bodily harm an offence under the laws of The Gambia.
In his plea, Baye Colley denied the charges, stating that he didn’t use an iron to hit the victim. He further requested the court to summon the complainant to the dock to narrate what transpired between them.
At this stage, the prosecution applied for an adjournment to enable them to secure their witness for the next hearing.
In his ruling, Magistrate Touray suspended the bail condition of the accused until the next adjourned date and ordered that Baye Colley be remanded at Mile II Central Prison in the meantime.
The matter was adjourned to Tuesday, 10th June 2025, for the commencement of hearing from Prosecution Witness 1 (PW1).
