Gambia Softball Eyes Global Stage with International Representation Goals

The president of the Gambia Softball Association, Mr David A. Haffner has stressed that his association is aiming to represent the country at the international stage even though it is a very young and unpopular sporting activity compared to others.

He stated this at the association’s annual meeting and elective congress held on Monday at the Gambia National Olympic Committee building in Bakau.

Softball is a bat-and-ball sport played between two teams of 10 players. It is a direct descendent of baseball, although there are some key differences: softballs are larger than baseballs, and the pitches are thrown underhand rather than overhand. Softball is played on a smaller diamond than in baseball.

Nigeria, Senegal have been invited for friendly competitions. Since its inception, the association has extended its wings across all regions in the country, targeting schools to nurture the young minds,

Outlining challenges faced by the association, the president noted finance and the unavailability of materials for the sport

Newly elected executive members of the association are Mr David Haffner as President, Mr Ronald Williams as 1st vice President ,Mr Bakary Touray as 2nd vice President, Miss Fatoumata Zarah Njie as Secretary General, Mr Bai Ebrima Cham as Treasurer, Rev’d Mary Decker as member of technical committee.
