Bakary K. Badjie, an opposition member in parliament has declared that it is imperative for Gambians to liberate themselves from the NPP misrule currently experienced in the country.
Hon. Badjie, a presidential aspirant in the coming election, was addressing a large political rally in Batabutu Kantora over the weekend.
He accused the Barrow government of subjecting the Gambian people to economic hardship while urging citizens to take responsibility for their own emancipation.
“It is now or never. Gambians must stand up and reclaim their noble land without retreat or surrender,” he told an enthusiastic crowd. “If we allow ourselves to remain passive, our nation’s resources will keep being plundered, worsening the economic hardships we face. Every citizen must understand how our national resources are being used,” he reiterated.
Hon. Badjie emphasized that the youth have a critical role to play, stating “Enough is enough. No force or intimidation can stop us from progressing. We are moving forward for the liberation of our country from economic starvation.”
He further criticized the government’s plans to privatize key State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), including the Gambia Ports Authority, GAMCEL, and GAMTEL. According to him, selling these strategic assets to private, often foreign interests will only deepen the economic difficulties of Gambians.
“When these SOEs are sold, control will shift to non-Gambians. Can they genuinely care about the welfare of our people? How will we generate income to develop our country?” he questioned.
Hon. Badjie called on all citizens to stand firm against economic hardships and self-enslavement, stressing that outsiders cannot and should not shoulder this responsibility on behalf of Gambians.
