The prosecution charged the accused persons with “Idling and Disorderly Person,” contrary to Section 166 of the Criminal Code, Cap 10.01, Volume 3, Revised Laws of The Gambia 2009.
According to the particulars of offence, on or about the 22nd day of April 2025, at Serekunda Babylon and Black Market in the Kanifing Municipal Council, the accused were allegedly found disturbing the public peace in a public area, thereby committing an offence.
The accused persons denied the charges after the charges were read and interpreted to them in languages they understood.
Chief Inspector Bojang, who appeared on behalf of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), applied for an adjournment to enable him to secure his witnesses for the next hearing date.
The prosecution further informed the court that although all accused persons were granted bail at the police station, the majority could not fulfil the bail conditions. However, some did.
He also informed the court that one of the accused is a minor and requested that his name be withdrawn from the charge sheet.
Magistrate Touray ordered the minor to produce a birth certificate to confirm his age. He further ordered that the accused persons who failed to meet their bail conditions be remanded at Mile II Central Prison pending the next hearing date.
