The National People’s Party (NPP) on Thursday unveiled its new national headquarters complex in Bundung, ahead of its official inauguration by President Adama Barrow, scheduled for Saturday, 31 May 2025.
The three-storey edifice, described by party officials as a symbol of the NPP’s commitment to institutionalizing politics in The Gambia, will serve as the central hub for both the national and Kanifing Municipal regional branches of the ruling party.
During a media engagement held at the site, NPP Deputy Spokesperson and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Seedy Njie, said the facility marks a milestone in modernizing political party operations in the country. He emphasized that the complex is not only a home for the NPP but also a permanent symbol of the party’s vision for generational continuity.
“The President believes that politics must be taken seriously. Building this structure is not about luxury, it’s about laying the foundation for generations to come,” the deputy speaker stated. He added that the initiative aligns with legal requirements mandating all political parties to maintain national and regional offices.
The facility houses administrative offices, a multipurpose hall, and meeting rooms named in honour of key NPP figures, including the party’s National President Alhaji Dembo Bojang, the late Deputy Treasurer Alhaji Momodou Barry, and former executive member Karamo Jadama.
Responding to media questions on whether the project was justifiable amid growing socioeconomic concerns, party officials defended the timing and relevance of the investment. “You cannot run a serious political party without a permanent structure. This is not just for today, it’s for the future,” said Seedy Njie
The NPP said the new headquarters would also enhance transparency, inclusivity, and coordination across all party levels, from the national down to the village and compound levels. The facility is expected to house records, planning operations, and serve as a resource centre for members and researchers alike.
The party has invited the public, partner parties, and supporters to witness the official inauguration later this month.
