The second defense witness (DW2), Sulayman Faal, yesterday told the High Court in Banjul that Ousainou Bojang, who is accused of fatally shooting two police officers and injuring a third, did not inform him about his departure to Julolom, Senegal.
Testifying before Justice Ebrima Jaiteh, Faal said Bojang never disclosed any travel plans to him around the time of the alleged incident in 2023.
Faal recalled first meeting Bojang while searching for a rented apartment to live in with his white girlfriend. He said Bojang helped him secure an apartment for four months but could not recall the exact name of the residence in Brufut Village.
He further testified that on 12 September 2023, Bojang visited him at Brufut Smiling Coast Residence and informed him of a WhatsApp post reporting that three police officers had been shot.
Faal stated that the following day, during a walk around the swimming pool at the residence, he noticed Bojang was missing. He said it was then that one Famara Bojang, the accused’s brother, told him that Bojang had been arrested in connection with the shooting.
The witness claimed that he and Bojang were usually together, and Bojang often assisted him in resolving disputes with his girlfriend. He also said Bojang once helped him with D500 when he had to sell his shoes.
Under cross-examination by defense counsel Lamin K. Mboge, representing the second accused, Amie Bojang, Faal maintained that Bojang never mentioned any personal issues or plans to travel to Senegal before leaving.
When questioned by Director of Public Prosecutions A.M. Yusuf about the exact date he checked into the Brufut Smiling Coast Residence, Faal said he could not remember. However, he asserted that Bojang was “100% innocent.”
Also testifying as the third defense witness (DW3), Famara Bojang told the court that Ousainou informed him on the afternoon of 12 September 2023 that he was having issues with his white girlfriend. He said Ousainou also mentioned that his Facebook and WhatsApp accounts had been hacked.
Famara added that his brother later apologized for a prior dispute with the family, which occurred around the same period. He is expected to continue his testimony at the next sitting.
