The Brikama Area Council (BAC) has recently paid out two million seven hundred and twenty-eight thousand, four hundred and seventy-six dalasi (D2.728,476) to the University of the Gambia as a scholarship package for some 74 students.
According to BAC sources the amount represents tuition fees of the 74 students under the Brikama Area Council Scholarship Scheme. Mr Ousainatou Corr the Director of Finance at The University of The Gambia has confirmed to the Voice that the amount was paid to help students of the UTG to build their capacities.
According to BAC, the intervention reaffirms the council’s continued commitment of supporting access to higher education for deserving students across the region.
The scholarship initiative is part of on-going efforts of the council to promote human capital development and ensure that financial constraints do not hinder academic pursuit. The council says it remains dedicated to empowering young people through strategic investments in education and capacity building.
