By: Dawda M. Jallow

Magistrate Mben Faal of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court on Thursday granted bail to one Fatou Secka in the sum of D3,050,000 in connection with charges of obtaining money by false pretence.

The accused was ordered to provide three Gambian sureties. Each surety is to sign a bond of D1.5 million. One of the sureties must submit a title deed for a compound within the Kanifing Municipal Council valued at D3 million, along with a property valuation report to confirm the stated value.

Inspector Cherno Jallow appeared on behalf of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and charged the accused with two counts: obtaining money by false pretence, contrary to Section 288, and forgery, contrary to Section 322 of the Criminal Code, Cap 10:01, Volume III, Revised Laws of The Gambia 2009.

According to the particulars of offence on count one, Fatou Secka, sometime in November 2024 at Fajara and other locations within the Kanifing Municipality, allegedly obtained D3 million from one Sheriff Jallow under the false pretence of selling him a compound. The prosecution claims she knowingly made a representation she knew to be false.

On count two, she is alleged to have prepared a forged Alkalo document of Busumbala with the intent to deceive, purporting it to be genuine.

The accused pleaded not guilty to both charges.

Inspector Jallow requested an adjournment to enable the prosecution to call its first witness. He did not object to bail, noting that the offences are bailable under Gambian law.

The matter was adjourned to 11th June 2025 for the hearing of the first prosecution witness (PW1).
