The Minister of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services, Dr. Ismaila Ceesay has disclosed that the National Audit Office (NAO) will publish a report on the sale of assets belonging to the former dictator, Yahya Jammeh.
Speaking to ‘Membe Kering’ TV recently, Dr. Ceesay said the full report on the sale of the assets would be provided by the National Audit Office. He has not given any specific period for the report to be released as NAO is an independent body that acts based on its mandate without interference, adding that the report would answer questions of who was involved and at what cost the assets were sold.
“The National Audit Office will provide a comprehensive report on the sale of these assets and will further inform the public about the costs involved in acquiring the assets and identity of the buyers for each of the transactions. I will provide the list as demanded by the public, so everything will be cleared,” Dr Ceesay noted.
It could be recalled that the Janneh Commission was set up by the Barrow Government to probe into the financial activities of the erstwhile dictator, Yahya Jammeh, and his close associates. After completing its work, assets recovery was made by the government, which included cars, aircrafts, tractors, cows, and landed properties.
However, the recent investigative report by The Republic has revealed some shady transactions in the sale of the assets of the country’s former president.
