In a bold step towards deepening youth participation in The Gambia’s industrial landscape, the Confederation of Gambian Industries (CGI) and the Gambia Youth Chamber of Commerce (GYCC) joined forces to boost youth access to jobs.
The two bodies recently signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at creating jobs, mentorship, and market opportunities for young entrepreneurs.
The agreement, signed by CGI President Hon. Sir Farimang Saho and GYCC Chief Executive Officer Fatima Muloshi, outlined a three-year collaboration to promote youth inclusion in industrial development and private sector growth.
Under the MoU, the two institutions will focus on areas such as capacity building, mentorship, policy advocacy, access to markets, and job creation. The partnership seeks to bridge the gap between young entrepreneurs and established industries, offering avenues for learning, growth, and visibility.
“CGI has made history once again with the signing of this MoU,” said Hon. Sir Farimang Saho. “I am hopeful that this partnership will create opportunities for our members to actively engage youth in various manufacturing jobs and activities.”
The agreement highlights several joint initiatives including internships, industrial visits, youth-targeted trade fairs, and a semesterly job exchange forum to link young people with potential employers. GYCC members will also gain exposure to manufacturing plants and have access to mentorship from seasoned industrial players.
To ensure smooth implementation, both parties will appoint focal persons to coordinate activities and hold quarterly review meetings to track progress and set new goals.
In addition, the institutions plan to collaborate on flagship events like the ‘Wanterr’ Trade Fair and a proposed National Youth in Industry Week, which will serve as platforms to showcase young talents and promote local production.
The MoU marks a significant milestone in The Gambia’s drive to empower youth through industrial engagement. With CGI’s influence in the manufacturing sector and GYCC’s strong youth network, the partnership promises to open new doors for young entrepreneurs and contribute to national development goals centred on innovation, job creation, and economic empowerment.
