Dr. Ismaila Ceesay, the Minister of Information, has challenged all who are alleging that there is corruption within the government of The Gambia to present their evidence.
He made the call during an interview session on the West Coast Radio Program, Coffee Time with Peter Gomez on Tuesday, October 8th, 2024.
In his response to the allegation of corruption within Barrow’s administration and that contractual agreements are now signed at the State House, the country’s Information Minister rubbished the claims saying: ‘’Who says that? There are people out there who want to tarnish the image of this government by spreading lies. Where is the corruption? Bring the evidence. You need to bring the evidence, but you cannot just say there’s corruption without evidence. Where is the corruption?’’
He maintained that the perception of people who are not in government is at variance with what is obtainable.
‘’I am in the government, I am inside, so I know what’s happening in the government. This government is not corrupt. Anyone who says there is corruption can bring evidence and I am ready to debate anybody in a public forum about this. I am inside and I haven’t seen any corruption and that’s the fact. The way and manner in which people are portrayed out there is not true,’’ he further stressed.
Ceesay insisted that the government has opened the political space, and freedom of expression as well as support to political stability as recently manifested during the welcoming of UDP’s political leader, Ousainu Darboe at the Banjul International Airport.
‘’Uncle Ousainu Darboe was given full VIP protocol on his arrival at the airport from the United States. This shows how tolerant Barrow’s government is politically, even with opposition politicians. Which country in Africa are you going to see such? No matter how much you hate this government, give the devil its due,’’ Dr.Ceesay emphasized.
He acknowledged that there are sometimes disagreements in governance, but he urged all citizens to drive and direct their destinations towards moving the country forward.
