 By Kemo Kanyi

The opposition United Democracy Party has welcomed the chairman of the ruling National People’s Party for Busumbalaconstituency, Buwa Fofana who has declared support for the UDP on Sunday with other sympathisers.

The defected chairman Fofana and other supporters were welcomed at the UDP political bureau at Manjai on Sunday where they declared their support for the party which they said signified their love for national development.

“When we start working towards the success of the country, and we have seen people who are emerging to destroy the country, we are duty bound to stand firm to rescue our beloved nation. I was one of the founders of this noble party. When we parted ways, all needed to be very mindful of what to utter. Since I left the UDP for NPP, I was careful of my utterances not to hurt anyone. So, when I return today, I am back to my compound. By Allah’s will, UDP will be going to the state house. Busumbala is a no-go area for NPP, I can vehemently repeat that over and over,” Mr Fofana declared.

Female Youth Coordinator of NPP, Busumbala, Tida Suwanehand Muktarr Conteh a supporter also declared their allegiance to the UDP with the conviction that the party is the only party to salvage the country.

“I realised that the right path is the UDP. I can assure you that after Ramadan, I will continue to mobilise many more women to join this noble party. I am 100% committed to the UDP henceforth,” she promised

The administrative secretary of the party, Honourable Alagie S. Darboe welcomed the new members assuring them how committed, decent and focused the party is in changing the political landscape of the country.

“From the West Coast region, Buwa was one of the people who established NPP due to misunderstanding within UDP then. You are welcome back to your home. UDP is focused on national development, nothing more. I am putting to NPP that they can’t stop UDP. Gambian are ready to salvage Gambia, not only UDP. There’s no petty talk in UDP. There’s no leadership crisis in UDP. We are the most organised political party in the Gambia,” he Darboe affirmed.
