Vice President visits National Youth Parliament

The National Youth Parliament (NYP), Wednesday 27th December, 2023 held discussions with Vice President Muhammed Jallow who paid a visit to NYP office premises in Westfield.

The purpose of the visit was to engage in discussions focused on youth-related issues and explore collaborative efforts to address challenges such as unemployment and irregular migration in The Gambia.

During the meeting, The Speaker, Honorable Omar Cham, emphasized the imperative of partnering with the government to mobilize resources aimed at tackling youth unemployment and irregular migration in The Gambia. Additionally, strategies for youth involvement in the implementation of the Recovery Process National Development Plan were explored.

“For the first time, a Vice President is visiting our office. This sends a message that young people are important,” he said.

Furthermore, Hon. Cham took the opportunity to discuss some areas in need of support, notably, the establishment of a resource centre dedicated to the empowerment of young people within the NYP office premises.

Hon. Omar Cham’s appeal for support in establishing a resource centre resonated positively with the Vice President. He highlighted the importance of such a centre in keeping the youth engaged and occupied, recognizing it as a vital component for national progress.

Vice President Jallow affirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to addressing youth-related challenges. He also highlighted ongoing discussions with partners to address issues related to irregular migration. The visit underscores a shared dedication to fostering collaboration between government and youth representatives for the betterment of the nation.

This visit is part of the VP’s fulfilment of the promise made during the NYP’s courtesy call at his office on November 7th, 2023.
