The PW1 – ASP Sang B Mendy from the headquarters of Central Intelligence Unit (CID) in Banjul has recently testified on how an accused, Abdoulie Keita, defrauded and uttered a fake American international passport to the name of Mamie FatouSallah.
Testifying before magistrate Mben Faal, ASP Mendy disclosed that sometime in December 2021 he received information at the CID headquarters in Banjul against Keita’s conduct that warranted CIU officers to launch an investigation.
Mendy said Keita was alleged to have obtained money from Mamie Fatou Sallah under a false pretense of dealing with an American passport. He stated that CID investigators found Keita in possession of a US passport which raises doubts on its validity.
He pointed out that Keita paraded himself as an American citizen working with the National Security Agency (NSA) deployed to Senegal and overseeing The Gambia.
”Keita during the investigation denied having an American passport and he (Keita) dismissed the fact of being an American citizen and a member of NSA,” he narrated.
However, ASP Mendy went on that Sallah told him that Keita had an American passport and claimed that Sallah sent (the scan) to him via WhatsApp.
”I transferred the picture of the alleged American passport from my cellphone to my laptop and it was printed in hard copy”, Mendy stated.
Furthermore, he said he wrote to the American Embassy in The Gambia through the Office of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) seeking the validity of Keita’s American passport, but the US Embassy on 1 June 2022 confirmed that Keita’s American passport was fake, noting that non of the members of NSA will travel with a fake American passport.
Sub-Inspector Yaya S. Colley at this juncture, applied for the court to allow his witness to bring the laptop in the next adjourndate. The case is set for a continuation of the testimony of PW1.
It could be recalled that Abdoulie Keita sometime in December 2021 was accused of falsifying American passport number 595965794 bearing his name. He is also accused of defrauding and uttering a fake American passport number 595965794 bearing his name to one Mamie FatouSallah.
