Hon. Amie Colley, National Assembly Member for FoniBerefet has accused former VP Isatou Touray of squandering time in abolishing FGM when she was well-positioned to do so.

“When the man (Jammeh) stepped down, this woman (Dr. Isatou Touray) succeeded to become the minister of trade. She became the VP of The Gambia for three years. I expect her to ban FGM during her period of(being) VP,” she fumed.

Madam Colley alleged that Dr. Touray stabbed former President Yahya Jammeh in the back after succeeding in her crusade for ending FGM in The Gambia.

In her contribution to the debate on FGM at the National Assembly on Monday, Ms. Colley accused the Gamcotraphead of stabbing Jammeh in the back after succeeding in her quest for the introduction of anti-FGM legislation.

She alleged that Dr. Touray pushed former VP Dr. IsatouNjie-Saidy and former First Lady Zeinab Jammeh to advocate the ban on FGM.

“And they (Saidy and Jammeh) succeeded. After pronouncing its ban, the same woman (Dr. Touray) made a U-turn, joined the coalition and campaigned against Jammeh,” the Berefet legislator stated.
