Accused pleads not guilty to charges filed against her

Awa Manneh has pleaded not guilty to trespassing and assaulting Sireh Jatta when she stood at the duck to take a plea of guilty or not before Principal Magistrate Isatou S. Mbye of the Brikama Magistrate’s Court on Monday. 

The accused, Awa Manneh pleaded not guilty to trespass and assault when the charges were read and interpreted to her, saying she did not fight Sireh Jatta in her compound.

But the police prosecutor Corporal Mariatou Badjie did not opposed to the bail of the accused which made it easy for the court to decide. 

Magistrate Mbye granted the accused bail in the sum of D25,000with one Gambian surety who shall make sure the accused is in court for hearings before adjourning the case to 24th July 2023 for continuation.

However, the accused was charged on two counts of offence. Count one states that Awa Manneh on the 23rd June 2023 at Kubuneh Village in the West Coast Region of The Republic of The Gambia unlawfully entered into the compound of SirehJatta with the intent to intimidate and annoy her.

On count two Awa Manneh on the 13th of June 2023 at Kubuneh Village in the West Coast Region of the Republic of The Gambia unlawfully assaulted Sireh Jatta by forcefully pulling her hair and hitting her on her neck causing her injuries.
