Hon Modou Lamin Bah, National Assembly member for Banjul North Constituency, who doubles as the Vice Chair of the Health Committee has raised an eyebrow over the recent death of the sixteen children.

In an exclusive interview with him, Hon Bah said child mortality is becoming a serious concern in this country and proper measures should be put in place to avoid such incidents, noting every life matters especially the children who are the future leaders of this country.

“The Ministry of Health already gave an update to the General Assembly 2weeks ago at the plenary and further informed us that the deaths were not related to AKI,” he disclosed.

Looking at the death toll of these children, he said, it is scary and makes not only him but every reasonable person get worried. He said there is a lot that needs improvement in the health care system particularly the death of children.

Hon Bah stressed that the Ministry of Health in close collaboration with its relevant stakeholders should put in place a holistic approach to ensuring proper health care is provided to all affected persons with enough resources.

“This issue is very paramount, I will urge the Ministry of Health to work on the recent gaps that are in their execution process and ensure that enough resources are given to them for their effective operations,” he added.

However, he noted that the Health Committee is currently ensuring that proper monitoring is done in the implementation of the recommendations that were made by them on the AKI report, adding that there are enough regulations but implementation is always a problem.
