Contractor of Hakalang Road Project May Face Penalties if Fails to Meet Agreements

By Mustapha Jarju

Hon Ebrima Sillah, the Minister of Transport, Works and Infrastructure on his ongoing site visits to the ongoing government’s road projects has revealed that the government has made it clear to the contractor of the Hakalang Road Project that the agreements he (the contractor) made with the government must be met or face penalties which include taking the contract from him.

The Hakalang Road project in North Bank Region was launched and the foundation stone was laid by President Adama Barrow on the 26th of September 2020 in Nuimi Buniadu.

“What we have shown to the contractor is that from now and before the end of June what he should do must be done, if he doesn’t do that there are penalties he (the contractor) could face. Part of that penalty is that, if he does not do his job as expected we may take the contract from him, and I believe they heard that very well,” Minister Sillah warned.

He added that the government seriously warned the contractors of the Hakalang road project to double up the effort with the process of the construction by adding machines, and human resources and also providing more basalt and all other services needed in the process of work, to avoid delaying the work.

“What we want is that before the end of June, the black road should reach Albreda, after that the gravel road from both sides out of the 58 kilometers of road construction should completely have enough secured gravel so that after the rainy season the only thing that will be left will be to lay the basalt on the road,” he explained.

While assuring the contractors of visiting the Hakalang Road Construction every two weeks to see the development.
