Commissioner Darboe Addresses WATAF Tax Administration in the digital Era Forum

Yankuba Darboe, Commissioner General Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) also doubles as Chairman of the West African Tax Administration (WATAF) has vowed to add more value to WATAF by creating networking and fostering mutual benefits between the two organizations.

Speaking at the 42nd Annual technical conference of the Commonwealth Association of Tax Administration (CATA) in Abuja, Nigeria, Commissioner General Darboe expressed appreciation for being part of the achievements of signing an MoU between ATAF and WATAF under his leadership as the chairman of the association.

The forum is looking into digitalization of the informal sector of the economy in a bid to digitalise taxpayer’s information security and confidentiality among others for effective administrative functioning.

Speaking to our reporter from Abuja, Nigeria Commissioner Darboe outlined the key areas of discussion during the forum which includes sharing of experience and expertise.

“We do more sharing of experience and knowledge. CATA organization consists of 47 countries and was established in 1978, the current president of CATA is from Nigeria, the chairman is from Malaysia, and the executive secretary is from Kenya Mr. Darboe stated.

Commissioner Darboe noted that at the end of the conference lots of knowledge and experience sharing will happen and also networking among the heads of tax administrations which he said will help each member state to build their capacity in their work.

“So far so good all the 47 member countries are in attendance, the Executive Secretary General of ATAF (Africa Tax Administration Forum), and The Executive Secretary General of WATAF (West African Tax Administration Forum). Two Administrations have also signed an MoU today to work together while CATA and ATAF which have also signed an MoU for them to work together and help each other,” he said.
